The team of Geotrading AD expresses special gratitude to Ms. Monika Stanisheva and Mr. Sergey Stanishev, who made the holding of the Green Transition 5.0 Forum their personal cause and, together with the teams of Green Transition Forum and Dir.bg, work tirelessly for this cause.
The fifth edition of Green Transition Forum in a row is being held this week in Sofia. Organisers are Green Transition Forum and Dir.bg, and this year Geotrading AD, part of the GEOTECHMIN Group, is one of the general sponsors of the event.
The focus is on competitiveness and innovation in the countries in Central and East Europe (CEE). The forum brings together leading experts, politicians and business leaders to discuss the ways in which CEE can accelerate the transition to sustainable economy without losing its competitiveness.
Mr. Nicholas Snowdon, Head of Metals and Mining Research at Mercuria Energy Trading SA, took part in the Energy Security and Connectivity – Building a Sustainable Energy Future Panel. He came to Bulgaria at the invitation of PhD Eng. Ivan Vutov, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Geotrading AD. During his speech, he introduced the topic of security of raw material supply, highlighting the importance of “critical minerals and copper, in particular as potential bottlenecks for the progress of green transition”. Snowdon expressed the opinion that Bulgaria has significant potential in this area, and pointed out that the country is the third largest copper producer in Europe and has “world-class mines” and “a very large smelting and refining complex”. Confident in Bulgaria’s potential for development, he stated: “we see Bulgaria as an amazing opportunity for some of these investments”.
On the second day of the forum, the Bulgarian public had the opportunity to hear in person Prof. Daron Acemoğlu, winner of the 2024 Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences and lecturer at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He held a masterclass on the topic “Who Will Own the Future?”, analysing the impact of artificial intelligence (AI), automation and the need for institutional reforms to address social inequality. The masterclass was attended by the following members of Geotrading AD’s team: PhD Eng. Ivan Vutov, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Geotrading AD, Mrs. Rumyana Ivanova, Executive Director of Geotrading AD, Mr. Stanislav Delchev, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors, Mr. Petar Dobrev and Ms. Teodora Milenkova. In the late afternoon, Prof. Acemoğlu held a public lecture, which attracted enormous interest, and the evening ended with a Gala Dinner, attended by Mr. Rumen Radev, President of the Republic of Bulgaria, Mr. Vasil Terziev, Mayor of Sofia, and other official guests.
The forum continues until Friday and the organisers expect the attendance to surpass previous formats from the last four years. Among the highlights of tomorrow, 19 June, is the participation of Ms. Teresa Ribera, Executive Vice-President of the European Commission for a Clean, Just and Competitive Transition. Tomorrow, right after the panel in which she participates, Ms. Ribera will lead a high-level roundtable discussion on the topic “The Roаd Map to Net Zero”. Eng. Georgi Petrov, Deputy General Director “Mineral Ores” of Ellatzite-Med AD, a company part of the GEOTECHMIN Group, will also take part in the discussion.
